Am I fit enough to race this event?
You should be physically fit before attempting any event of this type, and have reasonable experience riding a mountain bike.
All competitors race as individuals, however if you wish to ride the entire event, or a portion of it, with a friend is totally up to you.
As we use electronic timing for the event, the start is self-seeding, meaning that you will start in groups of approximately 60 riders a few minutes apart. If you wish to ride with someone, you may start in the same self-seeded group, provided you are racing over the same distance.
In a first for the Real Insurance XCM Series, a Real Insurance Tent City will be set up before the event, giving competitors the option of staying at the event centre for the whole weekend - absolutely FREE in our tents. Ofcourse you can still bring your own tent, and the family and friends can stay for just $10 a night extra.
If you're not the camping type, Port Macquarie has a multitude of accommodation options to suit any budget. Check out wotif.com closer to the event to grab yourself a cheaper option.
What is the minimum age requirement for this event?
The minimum age for the 100km event is 16, while teens 13+ may race in the 50km event.
What time does the event start?
The 100km event starts at 6:30am, while the 50km event starts at 8:00am.
There is a mandatory rider briefing that commences 15 minutes before your scheduled start time.
On Friday the 18th of November, the Event Centre will be open from 6:30pm until 9:30pm for race registration.
What services are at the event centre?
On Friday, throughout race registration, there will be sponsors stalls, coffee vans, and toilet facilities available. Meals will be available from the canteen facilities onsite. The mechanics and crew from Gordon Street Cyclery will be on hand to tend to any last minute issues you might have with your bike.
On Saturday, there will be food and coffee outlets for a quick breakfast before the event, or for a well deserved meal once you finish. Gordon Street Cyclery will be on hand to check over your bike, while the St. John's Ambulance will be available to tend to any personal injuries. Don't forget to check out the sponsors stalls and pick up some great bargains that you will only find on race day.
What should I take with me during the race?
There are three aid-stations situated on the course at approximately the 25km, 50km and 75km marks (25km mark only for those doing the 50km course). You will be able to refill water bottles and bladders with water, or why not drop a Shotz Hydration tablet? There will be some other goodies available including bananas and lollies for those feeling a little the worse for wear. We strongly encourage all riders, however, to be self-sufficient with their race nutrition, as there is no guarantee that there will be any goodies left by the time you arrive.
We recommend that each rider considers carrying the following items:
- Hydration pack or two full bidons.
- Energy foods.
- First aid kit.
- Pump.
- Spare tube and/or patches.
- Tyre levers.
- Multi tool.
- Spare chain link (to repair a broken chain).
- Sunglasses or eye protection.
- Mobile phone, we will have two mobile medics on course and will supply their numbers in the final race instructions.
- In adverse weather conditions, a riding jacket and warm clothing.
Can I drive to the event on the morning of the race?
We recommend that you stay reasonably close by on Saturday night, particularly if competing in the 100km event. We encourage all competitors to attend registration on Friday evening, as Saturdays's schedule is tight and the race registration tent will only be open for a limited time.
Is the singletrack or any part of the course technical?
We set out to make the Bottlebutt 100 a fun event, accessible to all level of riders. While there are some sections of technical single track, the majority of the trails are smooth, flowing and a whole heap of fun, just as we set out to achieve.
There are some big ascents and descents on the course, but nothing unachievable by the average rider. We encourage you to practice your hill climbing and descents before coming along to compete at the event.
Something has come up, can I get a refund?
Please refer to our Cancellation, transfers and changes policy, at the bottom of our Entries page.
Can I change my entry details during registration?
You can only change your details at race registration on FRIDAY. This will incur a $30 admin fee.
Please refer to our Cancellation, transfers and changes policy, at the bottom of the Entries page.
Could the event be cancelled under any particular circumstances?
Weather conditions, fires, flooding or a number of other factors may effect our ability to deliver our competitors a suitable event. In the event that the Bottlebutt 100 is not able to be run on its scheduled date, we will firstly endeavour to reschedule the event to a suitable future date. We would only ever cancel an event if rescheduling were not a viable option.
