Team Blackheart.com.au has returned from a successful trip to the Bimbache Extrem AR in Spain, finishing 5th.
Held in the Castilla y Leon Province in Northern Spain, the race is part of the AR World Series, and after 7 editions the organisers have been rewarded with the distinction of holding the 2010 World Championships.
BlackHeart Events Director Rob Preston was joined by Kim Willocks, Damon Goerke and Josh Willocks for the event, which they used as a warm up for the 2009 World Championships in Portugal later this year. The 2008 XPD Australia champions raced against a hot field of European teams and held their own.
The course traversed some fantastic mountain regions, with most of the course above 1000m elevation and up to 2500m. For most competitors the highlight was a 2hr caving section through a tunnel formed from a river forging its way through a limestone hill. There was plenty of abseiling, climbing, jumping and swimming.
The toughest part of the race were the 3 inline skate sections with a combined total of 30km and over 1500m climbing!
