New Event - The Bottlebutt 100 MTB Marathon

The Bottlebutt 100, Australia's newest mountain bike event, has joined the Real Insurance XCM Series as the 4th event, replacing the cancelled Angry Dr event.

Organised by iAdventure, the Bottlebutt 100 will be held in Port Macquarie on Saturday 10th of September.

Designed in consultation with two time World Solo 24hr MTB champion Jason English, the event offers 2 distances, the Bottlebutt 100, and the half-marathon distance Hairy-Butt 50.

THE 100K'er joins the Real Insurance XCM Series, powered by CycleNation

Real Insurance has announced its sponsorship of a new Mountain Bike Series in 2011 (March – September).  The aim of the Real Insurance XCM Series is to combine the biggest Marathon MTB events in NSW into a high profile series.  A total cash prize purse of $15,000 will be awarded to the overall winners of the different Series categories.

Sleep deprivation and Athletic performance

Clearly, anybody who has raced a 24 hour, 48 hour or expedition event will attest to the dramatic effect sleep deprivation has on performance and recovery.  The devastating effect that poor sleep has on health and well-being was recently bought to the fore by the meltdown of players and coaches in the AFL who routinely take a plethora of legal uppers to get ready for night games and then prescription sedatives afterward to try and grasp some sleep. Getting the balance seems elusive.

Goji Berries - The new wonder food?

Here at BlackHeart Events, we spend a lot of time on the road, and it always amazing me that when I reach for the bag of "Natural Confectionary", Amanda goes reaching for the Goji berries.  So, what the heck are Goji berries, and what's the attraction?

Every year it seems there is an ultimate well being silver bullet proliferating on health food store shelves promising amazing benefits. GOJI or Chinese Wolfberry is one of a number of adaptogens with the added attraction of being derived from an exotically originated Tibetan location (great for marketing hype). Digging beneath the hype, there is an emerging body of solid science around some of the tabloid claims that Goji is an efficacious adaptogen.
